Want to Transform Fear to Fascination? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
What are you afraid of? Really, seriously, nearly phobically afraid of?
For most of my life, it’s been spiders, and woe be unto any that venture inside my house. About half of the human population feels anxious about snakes, with a third being really, seriously, nearly phobically afraid of them. This fear causes the death of many harmless, beneficial snakes as people act out their “the only good snake is a dead snake” ignorance.
As I was studying how our brains work, I challenged my fear of spiders, deciding to learn more about them. I discovered this: the cure for fear is fascination. You don’t have to learn to love the object of your fear, just be open to learning about whatever it is.
When you understand more, your fear eases. And when you’re not so fearful, your instincts will be more “live and let live” than “kill, kill, kill.” And “live and let live” leads to a happier, more peaceful you.
