Working Together to Help the Fancy Grow

We all hear it and might even say it now and then: "Conformation is a dying sport!"

Let's work together to bring more people into the sport, and help those who are here enjoy it more, have more success, pitch in more at club events, and want to encourage others, too.

Looking for an easy-to-work-with, kind-to-exhibitors judge?

I remember being a new exhibitor. I remember being an eager and not terribly good owner-handler. I remember how good it felt when a judge was kind. I strive to be that kind of judge - the one who gives even the greenest of handlers and the wriggliest of puppies a good experience in the ring.

I'm approved for the entire Working Group, a handful of Non-Sporting breeds, one Toy breed and all-breed Juniors. I like to help clubs by officiating the NOHS Groups, 4-6 Puppy, and other special attractions.

The more fun we can make it for exhibitors, the more successful the shows will be!

Want to host programs and seminars that educate, enlighten and enliven?

I'm a professional speaker, citizen-scientist, and life-long learner. When I got into the sport of dogs, George Alston,  Quentin LaHam, and both Pats - Trotter and Hastings - were people whose seminars I attended, often more than once!

What I know for sure is that many who compete in dog sports now need more educational opportunities, especially where structure and movement are concerned. Let's work together to give them those opportunities!

Diana Ramsdell
President, Ochlockonee River Kennel Club

Sandy Weaver presented an engaging, educational and entertaining program for veterinarians and dog/owner patients alike.  I felt I had gained new insights within our community of dog lovers.

Mary Ellen Macke
Past President, Atlanta Kennel Club & Peach Blossom Cluster Chairman

I've seen Sandy Weaver present several times and would be inclined to attend any presentation she was giving. She has a wonderful blend of intellect, personality and respect for the subject as well as her listener.

Babette Ferris
Board Member, Ochlockonee River Kennel Club

Sandy's presentation was excellent! The information she shared was both interesting and valuable. Both the presentation and her book brought quite a bit to light that I never realized before. I would gladly welcome Sandy back!

Jaden had an awesome weekend - two Specialty majors! We could not have done it without your guidance. You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you!.

Gillian Angliss DVM

Storytelling and animation really connected with the audience. You are so  warm and inclusive – thank you!

Ann Sherwood Zieser DVM
Middleton Veterinary Hospital, Middleton WI

I really enjoyed your session and as I was reflecting on the content I realized that you did not use any technology and I didn't miss it one iota.  I guess that's because your content and delivery were so engaging!

Destiny Evans
Vet Student

I really enjoyed hearing Sandy’s stories as well as my peers’. Hearing all of  this reminds me that I’m not alone. I also loved the story of Sandy and  Bonnie. I plan to start mastering the rainstorm after that inspiring story.  Thank you!

Abbie Janisch
University of Illinois

You are a beautiful speaker and also listener. This was a very nicely organized topic and presentation.

"The hour-long presentation by Ms. Weaver was an interactive educational program for a full house of members, guests, veterinarians, veterinary support staff, and local pet owners. It was a very special event for the club."

Partnering for the Betterment of the Fancy

AKC clubs exist to promote the sport of dogs. If your club is like most, a few people do all the work and are getting pretty tired!

Educational events can help your members and those who attend your events feel more connected to the club, more energized about the events you host, and maybe even more likely to help out.

When we work together, it's a true partnership, including financially. Through the years, I've worn the "ways and means" hat a lot, so I understand the need to both educate members and enrich the club coffers.
