Quick – what are you doing right now?

  • What are you wearing?
  • How does your hair look?
  • How do your surroundings look?
  • What’s the weather like?
  • Who’s with you?
  • Who do you wish was with you?
  • How do you feel about all of what’s going on for you right now?
  • Do you appreciate the work you do, and at least most of the people you work with?
  • Do you like the clothes you have on, and the way your hair is choosing to be today?
  • Have you noticed that the plant in the corner is about to bloom, and that the sun is playing peek-a-boo with some pretty clouds, and that one of your co-workers seems sad today?

Did you have to work to answer those questions? If so, then you probably weren’t focused in the moment.

I know, I know…it sounds trite and overused, this whole “be in the moment” thing, but this moment is the only place you have any power. Everything you do is done now, every decision you make is made now, and every thought you have is thought now. You can think about yesterday or tomorrow, but you’re thinking about them now.
