Quick…how negative are your thoughts right now? Think about what you were just mulling over in your mind – were they worrisome thoughts, stressful choices, or even fear about your future?

According to the American Psychological Association, American adults report higher stress levels now than they did before the pandemic, with 62% of women between the ages of 18 and 34 saying that most days they feel completely overwhelmed by stress.

There are a lot of things that contribute to that stress, and focusing on the negative aspects of life has the affect of compounding the feelings of stress.

What you focus on is what you see – if you focus on feeling unsafe walking in your city, you’ll see plenty of scary-looking people and situations. If you focus on feeling uncared-for by the government, you’ll see evidence of their cavalier attitude towards their constituents’ concerns. On the flip side, if you focus on the goodness of most people, you’ll see evidence of that all around you, too.

One of the easiest ways to ease the stress you feel is to focus on something that doesn’t feel stressful to you. Let the things and people you love lift you out of stress and into mental wellbeing.
