How to Quit Being Mean to Yourself - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Do you find yourself criticizing yourself a lot?
Sadly, many people do, and it’s a very tough habit to break. If you want to lead a happier, more successful life, it’s a habit you MUST break, and you can break. It isn’t easy and it is possible using these steps.
- First, notice when you’re hard on yourself, saying things like “I’m so dumb” or “I’m a failure” or “I’ll never [fill in the blank with the dream you think you can’t reach.]”
- Laugh at yourself and say out loud, “Oh, that old nonsense again?”
- Then counteract the negativity with a reminder of the times when you were smart, or when you did succeed, or when you could feel that dream of yours so vividly that it felt like you were living it.
- Then go back to doing what you were doing, and take the internal successful words with you instead of the self-condemning words.
Learn to approve of yourself instead of disapproving of yourself – it’s not egotistical, it’s vital to your mental wellbeing, happiness, and success.
