Doom & Gloomers vs Pollyannas - Who's Right? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
When was the last time someone said to you, “the world is in a downward spiral” or words to that effect?
It is so easy to believe that the world is going to Hades in a handbasket – mainstream media scours the world constantly for bad news, gets video of it, sets it to minor-key music to subtly alert your brain to danger, and broadcasts it incessantly, or at least until another disaster happens. What’s shared most widely on social media tends to be shocking, and yet there are layers and layers of goodness in your life, ready for you to notice them, focus on them, and appreciate them.
- There’s the friend who is purposefully pulling herself out of the grief of a loss by throwing herself into a major athletic pursuit.
- There’s the co-worker who sailed through chemo and is focused on achieving another goal before her mastectomy.
- There’s the man with Parkinson’s who is continuing to do the things he loves to do instead of sitting down and accepting his diagnosis.
Next time someone tells you the world is terrible and getting worse, don’t focus on what they’re talking about – focus on the layers and layers of goodness in your own life.
