Who are You Punishing? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast

The other day I was talking to a girlfriend and the name of a specific grocery store came up. I told her I hadn’t been in that store for years because of a problem that the manager badly mishandled.

As the words came out of my mouth I heard how ridiculous I sounded, refusing to shop at an entire nation-wide chain of stores over one bad decision by one manager.

Oops.

Today’s Tiny Bite is about me, and maybe about you, too, if you have the occasional grudge you hold. Boundaries are good – grudges, not so much. I created the belief inside my head that I wouldn’t shop that brand. That meant that even when they had good deals on their great seafood, I missed out. My belief, created from an incident I refused to forgive, was limiting my choices and my life.

This is a trivial example of the kinds of beliefs most of us create for ourselves at some point in our lives – they begin with a real, true thing that hurts or angers us, and we use that thing to wall off a piece of our life.

Today, think about any grudges you might be holding. Chances are, the only person being punished is you. Excuse me…there’s a specific grocery store I need to shop in today…
