Do you lead a team? It could be a team at work, a group of volunteers, a family unit – no matter what kind of team leader you are, remember this: your team members are not you.
Let me say that again – your team members are not you.
This is an asset to the team, and I mean no disrespect to you when I tell you that. You have your unique set of skills, strengths, and passions. Guess what? Everyone on your team does, too, and theirs are not the same as your unique set.
It’s very easy to expect others to react to things like we would, to solve problems like we would, and to have the same work ethic we do. They don’t. They’re not you or me. Instead of expecting them to think and act like you, discover their unique set of skills, strengths, and passions, and encourage them to use them.
When people are encouraged to solve problems using their own abilities and enthusiasm, the whole team benefits.
