Why Righteous Indignation Only Hurts You - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Who has power in your life?
For most of us, the answer isn’t very clear. We hope it’s us, and then we start thinking about the powerful others – the boss, the significant other, the mortgage company…!
If you’re someone who does a lot of explaining, you’re giving your power away. For instance, if you’re late to a meeting and you apologize and explain that traffic was awful, you’ve just given your power away. Instead of explaining, try this instead – “Thank you for waiting.” You acknowledge your tardiness in a more powerful way, and it’s one that acknowledges the person or people who have waited for you.
If you’re someone who holds grudges, you’re giving your power away to the people you resent. Instead of replaying that tired old movie in your head, continuing to feel justified in your hurt, anger, and resentment, try this instead – forgive them. You don’t have to tell them you forgive them, but as long as you let them dictate your feelings towards them, they have power over you.
Forgive them, and let go of their power over you.
