Do You Think or Do You Respond? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

Are you a responder or a thinker?

Think carefully – don’t respond right away. And that’s kind of the point of this Tiny Bite. ;)

Most people simply respond to the world around them. If something happens they don’t like, they respond negatively. If something happens they do like, they respond positively.

Sounds pretty normal, right? Here’s the pitfall – when all you’re doing is responding to what’s going on around you, you’re not in charge of your life or your feelings.

When you choose to think before you respond, you exert control over those responses. For example, let’s say you keep getting caught at red lights and feel like steam is about to come out of your ears. Instead of blowing your top, shift your attention – look at what’s around you for things that are beautiful, interesting, or funny.

Find small details you’ve never noticed before that you have time to look for now that you’re stopped at the light. I guarantee that when you arrive at your destination, you’ll be in a much better mood when you focus on the details instead of on the inconvenience of the red lights.
