Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Are You Gutting Your Own Confidence?

Are you a person who will let yourself down before you’ll let someone else down?

Think about it – if someone you care about really wants to do something and you don’t, do you do it anyway? Do you give in to other people’s desires far more often than you do what you want to do? Will you let your own work go undone in order to help someone else meet their deadline?

Do you do that a lot? Have you ever wondered why?

Usually it’s because you care too much what other people think of you. You allow your sense of self-worth to be defined by the opinions of others – maybe your family, maybe your friends, maybe your boss or colleagues. Because you can’t control what they think of you, or even IF they think of you, you feel controlled by them, and sometimes even victimized by them.

If this is a constant pattern in your life, it might be good for you to spend some time with a counselor. If you’re like most people, this is an occasional occurrence, maybe just with one person who feels very important to you. Consider this – the only person you’ll spend 100% of the rest of your life with is you. If you keep letting yourself down, you won’t be very good company for yourself, will you?

Stand up for yourself and what you want and value. You’re worth it!
