Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Why to be Patiently Impatient

Are you a patient person, or are you someone who get so caught up in the anticipation of an event that you lose your temper when it doesn’t happen fast enough?

For most of us, the answer is “it depends.” It could depend on the mood you’re in that day, it could depend on how badly you want the thing, and it could depend on how much else is on your plate.

When I’m feeling impatient, I remember this last thought that John Steinbeck wrote to his son – the younger Steinbeck was in love and wanted some fatherly advice. The letter ended: “And don’t worry about losing. If it is right, it happens – the main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.”

These three powerful sentences sum up a faith in the unfolding of life, as well as our ability to roll with what happens. When you’re feeling impatient, remind yourself that there’s no hurry, because nothing good gets away from you, either.
