Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Channeling Your Inner Elsa
Have you been hurt by someone you loved and trusted? Most people have at some point in their lives. We know what our hurt feels like and have no idea how others feel about the broken trust and broken heart, so it’s easy to discount the pain of others while feeling like our pain is different, and maybe even worse.
Stop. Stop so many things about that scenario.
First, stop comparing yourself to others. It’s unproductive and often undermines your confidence and sense of self-worth.
Second, stop focusing on what someone else has done to you in the past.
The past is done. You can’t do anything to change it, and when you keep focusing on it, you keep it alive in your mind and your body. You do physical damage to your physical wellbeing because your brain floods you with the hormones associated with pain and loss all over again. That’s why you feel bad – because your brain can’t tell the difference between the event and the memory of the event.
When you’re rolling around in the pain and loss, break out that Disney princess song – let it go, let it go! You’re the only person in charge of your feelings, so take charge!
