Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Living Up to Someone Else's Ideals

A few years ago, I was training one of my dogs in the local park. We were working on a musical freestyle routine – basically a string of dog tricks set to music, so we appeared to be dancing. I overheard someone say, “wow she has no inhibitions at all!” as if it was a bad thing.

When Duffy and I finished up our training session, loaded up and headed home, and as I drove, I thought about the person who made that comment. It’s pretty normal to assume others should have the same sensibilities we have, and to be shocked or surprised when they don’t. I thought back to times when I had judged someone else by my life rules, and realized I didn’t want to do that to people anymore.

You may have heard me say in these podcasts, “what other people think of me is none of my business,” and yet that day, it was my business. That person reminded me that I have no business expecting others to behave the way I think they should, either.

Food for thought for you, too?
