Tik Tok challenges…Instagram influencers…Twitter mobs…the pressure to think and do alike has never been more intense.

This is hard for children, teens, and adults to handle. As humans, we’re hard-wired towards community, which includes a desire to fit in. We were raised by people who used the concept of approval and disapproval to teach us how to sculpt our behavior, our beliefs and even our looks to please those around us.

It’s no wonder that, even though the world seems to be preaching an appreciation of diversity and inclusion, the subtle messages we get all day long from media – mainstream as well as social – is to fit in. But to live who we authentically are is vital to mental wellbeing.

You don’t have to live yourself out loud, though if that works for you then go for it. Simply resisting the pressure to do thing, be things and think things because it’s what everyone else is doing is you, standing in your power and your authenticity. Go, you!
