When was the last time you chose how to feel?

We usually just feel how we feel and deal with it, and that’s not how you have to live your feelings. You can choose them, just like you choose your outfit each day.

In our everyday language we often say things like, “she’s so rude – she makes me so mad!” Think about it, though – is she the one making you mad, really? No – it’s your perception of her actions that’s triggering the anger.

This is really great news, because it means that if it’s your perception driving your feelings, you can just change your perception. In this example, is she really rude, or could it be possible that she’s clueless? Maybe she’s socially clumsy. Maybe she was raised by coyotes and doesn’t know how to behave in polite company.

Whatever story you make up in your head, make that what you perceive her to be. Practice that story about her instead of the “she’s so rude” story.

Your job is to feel good as much as you can – help yourself by changing the way you feel and talk about things and people. Words matter – entertain yourself with yours.
